Yoga
Melissa has been practicing Yoga since early 2001. She practiced Prenatal Yoga throughout both of her pregnancies. She partially attributes her ability to birth naturally to Yoga and learning to calm her mind and body through breathing and relaxation techniques. In 2008 Melissa took the first step toward becoming a Yoga teacher. She specializes in Pre and Post Natal Yoga.
Benefits of Prenatal Yoga during pregnancy & labor
- Increases over-all strength and flexibility, helping you to prepare physically for labor
- Eases sciatica and lower back pain, often present during pregnancy
- Reduces swelling and inflammation of the joints
- Allows for time to connect with the baby growing inside you
- Fosters a sense of community with other pregnant women
- Breath work and mediation practiced during pregnancy allows the laboring woman to achieve total mind/body awareness
- Hips and pelvis are more open and ready to birth baby due to preparatory poses practiced prior to labor
- Many Yoga poses transition wonderfully into comfortable laboring positions
When to take prenatal Yoga classes
With your midwife or doctor's approval, it is safe to practice Yoga in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of your pregnancy. It is best to take a Prenatal or Gentle Yoga class as many poses are modified for pregnancy.
Melissa is available for private or group Yoga instruction. Current rate for private instruction in your home is $60/hour (DFW area). Reduced rate is provided if Birth Doula services are also utilized. Her home studio is The Blue Anjou, in Lewisville, Texas. Please visit www.blueanjou.com for her current teaching schedule.
